Italian term

help with sentence

Italian to English Bus/Financial Journalism jewellery sector
I'm having difficulty following this (rather long) sentence. It comes from an article examining the impact of the global economic crisis on the Italian jewellery sector.
Here's the bit before, which is pretty clear: "La perdita di competitività sui mercati internazionali e le difficoltà a riportare l’industria italiana della gioielleria su sentieri di crescita trovano giustificazione in una serie di problemi strutturali che da anni affliggono il settore".

Here's the tricky bit:

"Infatti con il rallentamento della domanda aggregata pesa la diffusa inerzia dell’offerta: dalla scarsa proposta di nuovi prodotti, con crescenti dosi di innovazione e di nuovi materiali, e di processi produttivi, alla diversificazione e moltiplicazione di servizi annessi alla vendita del gioiello."
This is what I have understood: With the fall in demand (for jewellery), the already rather lacklustre production (or supply) has more serious implications... such as the lack of new, innovative products using new materials and with new production processes, as well as (the lack of?) a wider range of services blah blah

I don't need a translation, just an explanation...or confirmation that I've got the right gist of the sentence.
Thanks

no new product but new innovation materials etc.

With the fall in the demand, the rigidity (or even inertia, its basic economics the rigidity/elasticity of the demand/supply- offerta/demanda, maybe the author doesn't fully understand the precise meaning of the very well-known economic terms he is using, or maybe he does. it refers to quantity of supply) of the supply is having its effect. We are seeing a lack of new products accompanied by increasing doses of innovation and new materials and production process, along with a diversification and multiplication of jewellery sales services.

The text is actually a bit tricky... :)

your translation is almost correct

(but please mantain '*aggregated* demand' because that adjective is important
http://www.google.it/search?num=30&hl=it&safe=off&q="aggrega...
)

Then,
"con il rallentamento della domanda aggregata pesa la diffusa inerzia dell’offerta: dalla scarsa proposta... etc etc "

it would be more correctly said as:
"con il rallentamento della domanda aggregata, pesa la diffusa inerzia dell’offerta: dalla scarsa proposta... etc etc "

And the text after the colon isn't the description of the effects of the first two elements (lowered demand, scanty offer) as you translated (and how it could be easily misunderstood) BUT the description of the elements that already characterized the scanty offer.

In other words:
"now the aggregated demand is lowered
and the defects of the offer, that already before this
was poor since:
-scarce proposal new products involving new ideas and materials
-scarce proposal of new productive processes
-scarce differentiation and quantity of services dealing with the jewel selling
,
have more serious implications."

Well, Italian can be very complicated sometimes... ;)
Anyway, I hope that I have been able to explain it well. I didn't care too much to translate it at the best (as you requested), I just tried to trasnform the text (in structure as in language) to make it more understandable :))
