Pues aquí sigo con mi texto sobre música china contemporánea... esta vez es una expresión la que me está dando dolores de cabeza.
Veamos, están hablando de un compositor y el autor dice: "Inició su carrera musical haciendo sonar cualquier instrumento que hubiera al alcance en su aldea, empezando por utensilios de cocina, y pasando inmediatamente a los instrumentos de cuerda tradicionales".
¿Qué me decís? ¿Cómo traduzco "haciendo sonar"?

more literally: making sound …

I would think of these as experimental activities during early childhood (note that utensilios de cocina are being mentioned) before the composer began studying more “traditional” musical instruments.
