I am trying to translate some Spanish subtitles (to a French movie!) into English and can't figure out the phrase would mean in idiomatic English. Quítate-que-me-pongo-yo.
Proposed translations (English)

Hi, Rhclayto. It'd be helpful if you could give us the original French sentence, since "quítate-que-me-pongo-yo" is rendered here by a French-Spanish translator as his VERY particular use of the expression as an adjective. So it would be interesting

It's from Jean Cocteau's Les parents terribles. The full line is 'Un día te das cuenta de que los hijos crecen y que son unos "quítate-que-me-pongo-yo". It's spoken by the clinging mother who can't bear to let her son go off on his own--it's rather complex to describe the whole scenario--but the son's parents have played a trick on him in order to make him believe his girlfriend has abandoned him; then they think better of it, & decide to tell him it wasn't true, & to reunite them. The line in question is spoken by the mother, who has just been convinced to go along with telling their son about the trick, & in a wistful moment, speaking to her husband. The son is not present.

I think it would be better if we knew who was speaking (a British or a French person (an Italian?), from what era, from what city, an artist? a blue collar worker? A priest? etc.).

Así, a voz de pronto, es la idea que me da la frase, no es traducción literal, pero es el significado que me transfiere y la traducción más cercana a este significado que se me ocurre ahora mismo.
Lo que es la frase en Inglés "Move over, it's my turn (now)" sí que es de uso común.
Bueno, he ahí mi aportación, espero pueda ayudar.

"Get out of my way, let me do it", "Get out of my way, I'll take care of it", "Don't get in my way, I will do it". These all assume that there is something that she must do. There is probably a much better translation, wait and see what comes in.

Get out of my way

This is a common idiomatic expression in the source language. It has some variations, such as "quítate tú pa' ponerme yo" which was also made into a very popular Latin Jazz or "salsa" song years ago.

It doesn't have a friendly connotation, though.

"It's my time to live"(my life)

or "just let me live my life", or "you had your chance to live, now it's my turn"

Just a suggestion...I thought it went with the context of how children are when they get older and they just want to be left alone to live their life. Almost like saying to the parent, "you had your chance to live, now it's my turn".

Like S Price said, you gave a good description, but I still don't know the level of emotion/tension/conciliation in the dialogue between the two parents.

I hope these suggestions help give you some ideas...

I think this translation (as is) would capture the colloquial expression and meaning of the phrase; and it'll also fit in the subtitle space you have for it.
