Spanish term

médico colaborador

Spanish to English Medical Medical (general)
Also *médico colaborador clínico*. Sample sentence: Es médico colaborador del departamento de bioquímica; Se incorporó en 1985 como médico colaborador del departamento de microbiología, donde trabaja como consultor desde 2001. I'm looking for the UK equivalent. Collaborative/collaborating physician doesn't bring up many hits for the UK. All suggestions appreciated, thanks!

Discussion

David Brown Sep 16, 2008:
David Brown Sep 16, 2008:
Clinical Pathology is a medical speciality. You may be correct in using "registrar" as this is the grade in the UK and, I believe, elsewhere, when medical doctors specialise. But if you are not sure of the grade I would just say on the medical staff......
Biomed Sci (asker) Sep 16, 2008:
Hi David...these are from cvs on people working in a Spanish hospital. Of the 4 mentions in the document, 3 have eventually become consultants with the newest member currently a "medico colaborador". I've used collaborating physician in other contexts but not sure about here as I never heard anyone referred to as such while working in a hospital and wondered if it corresponded to a particular grade eg. registrar
David Brown Sep 16, 2008:
Is this a CV for someone looking/applying for work in the UK? If so what type of work is being looked/applied for? http://www.pathologists.org.uk/all-page-stuff/about_frameset...
Muriel Vasconcellos Sep 15, 2008:
UK preference I don't think searching with "UK" is a reasonable criterion for deciding if it's acceptable in the UK. "Collaborating physician" is used internationally, especially by the World Health Organization.

2 KudoZ points awarded for this answer. Comment: "Thanks David! Your discussion led me to 'Registrar'. Client in this case also favoured 'Registrar' since according to him "these doctors are neither a trainee (houseman) nor a consultant, but rather a specialist". Thanks to all of you for your efforts and suggestions which I will undoubtedly use in the future!! Saludoz! "

maybe it should be the other way round?

In the United States, a physician assistant (PA) is an advanced practice clinician licensed to practice medicine with the supervision of a licensed physician.[1] PAs are not to be confused with medical assistants, who perform administrative and clinical tasks in hospitals and clinics under the direct supervision of physicians, registered nurses, nurse practitioners, or PAs.

UK ref.

of which Guy's is justifiably proud.

Robert Liveing, moving to the Middlesex Hospital as Lecturer in Anatomy and Physiology after Cambridge and Kings, was promoted Assistant Physician there in 1866, becoming full physician in 1872 and given charge of the Skin patients. In time he relinquished his physician's role and concentrated on dermatology, being designated Physician to the Skin Department in 1879. After UCH and Charing Cross, it was the third such post in a London teaching Hospital. He produced his Handbook on Diseases of the Skin in 1887; his Goulstonian Lecture in 1873 was on Elephantiasis Graecorum or True Leprosy. He retired in 1888 after he had trained J J Pringle to take over the reins.

neutral mariacm : Possibly assistant physician. Definitely not physician assistant - that is an "asociado medico" which in the US is a 2 year grad degree, not the same as medical school. They can only work under an MD and their scope of work is smaller.
