French term or phrase: "Fichier de tête"
I am translating a software manual on manufacturing scheduling for a local client.

My client gave me the definition of "fichier de tête" as: "fichier qui concerne les informations principales des OF: code, libellé, dates, etc., mais pas les operations d'OF".

I have found "head file" as I searched and Googled, but wanted more input from some with a better IT background as to if this is correct or not.

Thanks in advance!

English translation:header file
Explanation:
Header files usually contain definitions that are common to a whole series of files. In this case it sounds as if they could be definitions of the fields that are found in other files actually containing the data.

Comme son nom l'indique, il contient l'information "documentaire" relative au fichier en question : "code, libellé, dates, etc."

Explanation:
From the description it looks like a "fichier principal" with the details left to the other files

agree  Terry Richards: I prefer "header file" but this would work too. Also "master file".

agree  Terry Richards: with the translation, I have my doubts about the commentary though. It's information common to manufacturing orders that doesn't need repeating for every detail line.
