- Detto anche bottaccio, è quel rigonfiamento che circonda lo scafo, riportato sul fasciame esterno e raccordato in modo decrescente verso prua e verso poppa e ha come scopo principale quello di migliorare la stabilità dello scafo già costruito, aumentandone l'altezza metacentrica.
Per similitudine sono detti bottazzi quei profili longitudinali disposti tutt'attorno allo scafo con lo scopo di proteggerlo dagli urti.
