Glossary entry (derived from question below)
German term or phrase:
eine Kernlochbohrung zur Kabeleinführung durchführen
English translation:
(e. g.) to drill a core hole to feed/route the cable(s)
German term
eine Kernlochbohrung zur Kabeleinführung durchführen
Kernloch = tapping hole, cored hole (?)
Kabeleinführung = cable entry point
Suggestion: to bore a tapping hole to the cable entry point
Doubt: Can you say "to bore a hole TO something"?

You could say "core a hole" if you are sure it is through concrete or masonry.

if you use core, I think the hole would be quite big, though. It's usually to insert a post or something.
What about "a hole must be cored to feed cable(s) through"? |

Harry Borsje
: Said hole is more likely to be made through a (concrete) wall or floor (and will probably be >>20-30 mm in diameter)

Prossibly true, but I don't think it's "core hole" either. To be quite honest, I think we would just say "drill a hole".

to trepan a cable inlet hole

: not "trepan"

it is a Webster's entry ("..to cut a disk out ..")!
|
to make a core drill hole to feed the cable
cut a core to feed through the cable
drill a core hole to route (or feed) the cable
I would 'drill' a hole, not perform a drilling and even though the German says introduce the cable, I think you might sound more natural with 'route'
The first link says:
"Fire-Rated Poke-Through
A cable distribution device which is fitted through a predrilled core hole and allows cables to be fed from the floor below. A compartment at or above the floor surface is used to provide voice, data, power and video connections while maintaining the fire integrity of the floor."
I would avoid the use of 'tapping' because in the USA that connotes that the hole is threaded.
