Really not sure about "cartón independiente". It does come up a few times on Google in the same context, but without any helpful explanation...at least I couldn't find any.

The term cannot refer to either an enclosed box or to a printed boundary box, given the context. When was the last time you saw a name "boxed" when it appeared during opening credits.
The only explanation that seems to make sense within the context of both opening credits and marketing materials is that the actor's name is to appear "by itself" or "unaccompanied" in both instances.
