Some synonyms to "betling" are: racing, bounding, barreling, rushing
Example sentence:

As the bus belted toward me, I imagined that I would soon be dead.

Peer comment(s):

agree Tony M : NS OED says 'hurry, rush' / More than just sheer velocity, also has a suggestion perhaps of haste or urgency

Thanks! I accidentally "hid" my answer for a bit when thanking Tony for his agreement. You found some great examples that the asker can learn from.
agree Joe L : I missed your answer, too. Still wondering if this is primarily BE, though.

thanks Karen :)
agree Joe L : I hadn't known this (though my personal lexicon is nothing to brag about). Found it, sure enough, in the third dictionary I checked (Merriam Webster's). I am curious, however, if this is 'chiefly' BE (?); I notice that both your references are BE.
