Not sure what rechtspraak is doing in this phrase, but what's the best way to phrase it? ...the number of women in the judiciary (courts) and the Public Prosecution Service, bearing in mind that the next sentence mentions 'rechterlijke macht', which is usually the judiciary?

Comment: "To avoid repetition of judiciary, I decided to go with this option, but avoided CPS since it's not the UK system we're talking about."

: I looked it up in Van den Ends. I think Moira is confused by the 'rechtspraak', but they simply and superflously mean ' in court'.

Sorry - I should have also included "public prosecution" services/authority, etc.
Rechtelijke macht could simply be covered by "judicial system" - which of course could also be used to cover the judiciary, lawyers, etc.

Note from asker:
I'm confused. I thought the judiciary (zittende magistratuur) was just the judges, anyone who 'sits' in a court, while the staande magistratuur was the prosecution (CPS in the UK, OM in the NL). The site you mention does actually define the judiciary as 'Collective term for the 43,000 judges, magistrates and tribunal members who deal with legal matters in England and Wales.' |
