English term

secondary deposits in bone

English Medical Medical (general)
In a text on diagnosis and treatment of lower back pain, there is a list of possible underlying causes.

Under the heading "Neoplasms", one of the items is "secondary deposits in bone".

Would this refer to metastases or to mineral deposits (osteophytes etc.)

4 KudoZ points awarded for this answer. Comment: "Thanks to both of you. Of course I wouldn't call any calcium deposits neoplasms, but there are deposits that are secondary to neoplasms, either within or around tumors or as an effect of a hormon producing tumor. Also, I had actually never before encountered "deposit" used to mean metastasis (althoug I am convinced by now). I also asked teh question on the Medical Translators list, and the answers were somewhat divergent. Possibly the author might have chosen the word deposit because he wanted to include both metastasis AND mineral deposits that are secondary to neoplasms. Anyway, I chose to translate it as "metastases"."

bone metastases

Osteophytes and calcium deposits would not be listed under "neoplasms".
Peer comment(s):

agree Jeanette Phillips : If the reference is to Neoplasms then Metastases apply. osteophytes occur "on"bone not in it.
