German term

passerhaltig

German to English Tech/Engineering Printing & Publishing
Es wird ein Ausführungsbeispiel mit passerhaltiger Anordnung von Druckschichten aus rechtsdrehendem und linksdrehendem flüssigkristallinem Material beschrieben, die bei normaler Beleuchtung das gleiche Erscheinungsbild zeigen, so dass eine durch die Form bzw. den Umriss der Bereiche dargestellte Information nicht erkannt werden kann.

Obviously something to do with "register", but I just can't figure out what. TIA for your help.

Brie Vernier (asker) Aug 14, 2006:
Thank you, Gudrun and peers, but I'm not quite convinced yet. According to the definition provided in the other KudoZ question, "passerhaltig(-keit)" is not quite the same as "passergenau(-igkeit)", though the end effect may be the same. Perhaps there is no other term for it ...?

register-accurate

In PONS Passerabweichung is translated as "register deviation."

Among the KudoZ answers you will find an explanation of the meaning of the German word

On Google I found also:
"Dank des... lassen sich temperaturempfindliche Materialien wie z.B. Folien sicher und passerhaltig bedrucken."
translated as:
"The... enables reliable, register-accurate printing of temperature-sensitive materials such as foils."
Peer comment(s):

agree Kim Metzger : Langenscheidt Technik has "keeping of register" for passerhaltigkeit - not too good. "The highly automated XL 105 features Autoplate Advance for simple, register-accurate plate changing..." http://www.printondemand.com/MT/archives/003463.html

agree Klaus Herrmann : 'accurately registered' covers 'passerhaltige Anordnung von'.

agree DC Josephs : "in-register" would also work (e.g. http://www.tso.co.uk/literature/printGlossary/r/). The Polygraph Dictionary gives "register maintenance" for "passerhalten";

2 KudoZ points awarded for this answer. Comment: "Thanks, Gudrun. I've used "register-maintaining", as suggested by DC Josephs, even though I haven't found any good support for it -- but as I explained above, I'm not comfortable using the same term as for "passergenau", which appears in the next line.
