Can't seem to find the equivalent English proverb (among the thousands of dog proverbs to be found on-line) for this French one. Thanks for helping me to crack it!:

"Le dicton « Tel maître, tel chien » n’est pas une expression vaine…Plus encore que le cheval, le chien gagne l’estime de l’homme.."
