data logging equipment

It could be that "objets" relate to IT data objects (as in Object Oriented) and that the device they manufacture records/logs certain information but again just guessing without more context. "Data logging" gets quite a few google hits.

Another reference is
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Data_logging which also mentions "black box recorders" which may give you more food for thought!

dictating machines

I can only think that the obvious answer may be the right one. I'm not sure exactly what your context is, but I'm wondering whether the 'protection des objets' is referring to the use of IT equipment in a public setting (museum, exhibition etc), where the keyboard is replaced by a 'dicteur' so that the public don't have to touch (and risk damaging) the equipment.

But the more I think about it, the more stoopid that sounds. ;-)

It is clear, having found the entire sentence in its context (see referenced webpage), it is clear that there is not necessarily any direct relationship between 'dicteur' and interactive multimedia, data logging, dictating machines or anything else.

I suggest you invite your client to check their French.
