use of 1.5-fold

English term or phrase: use of 1.5-fold
an aim is expressed as follows:

To increase (1.5- to 2-fold) the number of participants compared to XXX (i.e. in the 2007 event as opposed to the 2006 event)

The problem is we don't really say 'one-and-a-half-fold', do we? It seems too much of a mouthful....

So how can I change it?

To increase the number of participants 50-100% (?) compared to ...........???????

I wouldn't be afraid of "1.5 fold". It has almost 6 million hits on Google.

Or you can use 150-200%, what do you think?

I think that it would be best to use "1.5-fold" since this is a common expression.

It is also common that someone giving a presentation may read this as "one point five fold".

I would write:
our goal is to see a 1.5 -2 fold increase in the number of participants

I am not sure if we could write 2.0 fold - or does that look too precise?
