about a display- have seen 'display/er'. But, on medical instruments it normally refers to temperature display,timer,ON/OFF etc.I thought 'panel' or 'skjerm' would be the correct term???

If feel "display" is the most frequently used word when the object is a small screen containing only letters/numbers, although I have also seen "skjerm" and "panel" in such contexts. Here is an example from the security instructions of a blood pressure meter:
