Please answer these questions and be honest as you like!
Votes to reclassify question as PRO/non-PRO:

PRO (2): Balasubramaniam L., fareedeh ghassemi (X)

When entering new questions, KudoZ askers are given an opportunity* to classify the difficulty of their questions as 'easy' or 'pro'. If you feel a question marked 'easy' should actually be marked 'pro', and if you have earned more than 20 KudoZ points, you can click the "Vote PRO" button to recommend that change.

How to tell the difference between "easy" and "pro" questions:

An easy question is one that any bilingual person would be able to answer correctly. (Or in the case of monolingual questions, an easy question is one that any native speaker of the language would be able to answer correctly.)

A pro question is anything else... in other words, any question that requires knowledge or skills that are specialized (even slightly).

Another way to think of the difficulty levels is this: an easy question is one that deals with everyday conversation. A pro question is anything else.

When deciding between easy and pro, err on the side of pro. Most questions will be pro.

* Note: non-member askers are not given the option of entering 'pro' questions; the only way for their questions to be classified as 'pro' is for a ProZ.com member or members to re-classify it.

See explanation below...

It's a fairly colloquial expression, and to a native speaker, it immediately suggests:

"Be frank, don't be afraid to tell the truth has you perceive it, even if you're afraid we won't like what you say" --- in other words, tell us what you REALLY think...!

It doesn't mean 'be as honest as you are capable of being'

To Koray:

It\'s terribly difficult to explain the nuance of meaning here, but trust me, there IS one!

\"Be as honest as possible\" suggests pushing telling the truth, like saying to someone \"How many cigarettes have you smoked today?\" C\'mon, now own up, tell the truth.\"

But \"be as honest as you like\" means be frank, don\'t pull punches; you WOUDLN\'T say \"How many cigarettes have you smoked today, --- now, c\'mon, be as honest as you like\" --- that would be silly (unless you meant it ironically); but you might well say \"What do you think of my new dress? --- now c\'mon, you can be frank with me, be as honest as you like\"

It\'s all a matter of subtle nuances, and the different expectations of answer between asker and answerer --- a question of \'feeling\'; and such factors hold good EVEN for \'a simple questionnaire\' --- particularly if it is a company trying to get frank feedback from its employees, for example...
Peer comment(s):

neutral koray_erman (X) : if one says what he/she REALLY think, he is as honest as possible! You seem to have an adundant stock of abusing disagrees. You miss "Answer these questions": a simple questionnaire

Thanks, Koray! Please see my attempted explanation above; and please don't take disagrees as 'abusing', mine are never meant like that... :-)
agree sarahl (X) : nice explanation. now I'm dying to see you in your new dress!

Thanks, Sarah! Sadly, I've put on so much weight, I can't get into ANY of them now ;-(
agree Lucy Phillips : and taking offence at perfectly legitimate 'disagree's makes the whole Kudoz exercise pointless - must admit I'm rarely brave enough to use them!

Thanks, Lucy! And for your support; I do wish we could find a less challengingly emotive word than 'disagree'... As you say, they lose their value if sprinkled too liberally....
agree Elizabeth Lyons : Dusty, a generous and clear explanation of a true subtlety and you are never, never abusive : ))); re Lucy, it depends on what and how it is said in the Disagrees, to be used sparingly and incisively - I agree : )

Bless you Elizabeth -- and thank you! I think newcomers always take a while to get used to poor old Dusty and his ways... :-))
agree flipendo : It definitely has to do with how honest you want/choose to be.

Thanks, Flipendo! Glad you read that in it too...

agree cmwilliams (X) : yes, and your 'disagree' was justified.

agree Can Altinbay : I think Dusty has the right to be as honest as he likes, though it may be possible to be even more honest than that.

Thanks a lot, Can! ;-)))

agree Enza Longo : and be AS honest as you can

Thank you! :)
disagree Tony M : No, it means more than that!
4 mins
More....? How more honest can one be? What do you mean?
disagree Catherine Bolton : With Dusty. As honest as you LIKE means you can choose to lie or be less than honest if you want to. Honest as you can means that you really shouldn't lie. I suppose pathological liars are somewhere in between! ;-)

disagree NancyLynn : with Dusty - there's a difference

don't hesitate to say things that may be unsavoury

In other words, don't be diplomatic if you want to criticise.
