button mushroom

I think this would be the right term. The Latin name for "grotchampignon" is "Agaricus bisporus". If you enter this in Google, you get quite a few hits. It does seem though as if the term button mushroom is also used for regular mushrooms.

agree vixen : button mushroom or champignon de Paris, apparently the common cultivated white mushroom

agree Toiny Van der Putte-Rademakers : From the seventeenth century button mushrooms were grown in the south of Holland in marl caves. They are exactly the same as ordinary button mushrooms, but they are harvested complete with foot.

neutral blackbird : In our local grocery store (US) they're called "crimini mushrooms" or "crimini's". The Dutch variety is a bit smaller but it's got to be the fertilizer :)

I am not quite sure that my answer is completely wrong according to the following information :

\"Reuzenchampignon en grotchampignon.\"
De reuzenchampignon is een grote variant van de gewone champignon. De witte hoeden zijn groot en ideaal om te vullen. \"De grotchampignon, ook champignon de Paris genoemd\", wordt gekweekt op mergelachtige grond en wordt met voetje geoogst. De grotchampignon heeft een gelere kleur dan de Hollandse champignon, bevat minder water en laat om deze reden minder vocht los tijdens de bereiding.

\"Chestnut mushrooms\"
These have a strong taste and a meaty texture, \"they have a similar appearance to a button mushroom\" but are a darker colour. The mushrooms should be open, but not too flat, exposing the pink to dark brown gills on the underside.
Seasonal availability: All year.
Uses: They are perfect eaten raw or lightly cooked.
To store: Place in a paper bag in the salad drawer of the refrigerator to keep for a few days.
To prepare: Cultivated mushrooms are usually very clean: just wipe with a kitchen towel or rinse briefly and dry before use. Do not peel. Leave the mushrooms whole or slice as necessary.
