Spanish term

talentos

Spanish to English Bus/Financial Human Resources
En español, en este aso Colombia, uno se puede referir a los talentos como la gente que tiene un talento para algo (por ejemplo: "los talentos en el futbol" se entiende como "la persona que tiene talento en el futbol". En ingles se puede usar la palabra talents? Yo pensaria que no, pero me gustaria su opinion.

Jun 4, 2005 07:28: moken changed "Level" from "Non-PRO" to "PRO"

Votes to reclassify question as PRO/non-PRO:

PRO (3): Jane Lamb-Ruiz (X), Marian Greenfield, moken

When entering new questions, KudoZ askers are given an opportunity* to classify the difficulty of their questions as 'easy' or 'pro'. If you feel a question marked 'easy' should actually be marked 'pro', and if you have earned more than 20 KudoZ points, you can click the "Vote PRO" button to recommend that change.

How to tell the difference between "easy" and "pro" questions:

An easy question is one that any bilingual person would be able to answer correctly. (Or in the case of monolingual questions, an easy question is one that any native speaker of the language would be able to answer correctly.)

A pro question is anything else... in other words, any question that requires knowledge or skills that are specialized (even slightly).

Another way to think of the difficulty levels is this: an easy question is one that deals with everyday conversation. A pro question is anything else.

When deciding between easy and pro, err on the side of pro. Most questions will be pro.

* Note: non-member askers are not given the option of entering 'pro' questions; the only way for their questions to be classified as 'pro' is for a ProZ.com member or members to re-classify it.

There is a lot of talent among young players..Yes..but not \"the talent\" as noun on its own...
Peer comment(s):

neutral moken : Hi Jane! Talent is often used as a noun when an adjective is placed in front, or another noun acting as an adjective, to form a compund noun. This is often heard in the UK. Looking at the Web, it would seem it's also used in the U.S. :O) :O)

no, no se puede... "talent" as a noun is used to refer to movie stars, voice talent, etc, but not...

... in your context

gifted or talented players would be an option...

I suspect this has to do with English prefering direct reference, while Spanish often likes oblique references.
