Definitely a low point in the poll world May 22, 2016

Fully agree, Max. I recently sent in a proposed "quick poll" asking "Which kind of poll annoys you the most?" suggesting five different possibilities, including "other." My suggested topic was never posted, of course. This one would have fallen under "Forced choice among essential items."

Who has the time to come up with these kinds of "meaningless" polls?

This old poll discussion contains a range of opinions on what constitutes wasted time, and how translators choose to use it.

Bored in-house translators
Freelancers in a lull
Unemployed bilingual wannabes
A translator's kid on a lark
Proz.com owners bored out of their skulls

not a dumb question, but dumb answer options May 22, 2016

I need silence to work, for example. Helicopters circling the area or leaf blowers (both part of life in LA...) can be a tremendous nuisance and make it hard to focus...

And we know for sure many good questions are never posted, to give place to this kind of %@##@$.

To each their own. I, for one, drink tea instead of coffee to stay awake.

the night owl's menu May 23, 2016

After 3:00 a.m., significant amount of coffee, combined with
a) tea;
b) energy drink;
c) smoking;
d) silence (everybody sleeping in the another room
e) silent jazz (nowadays Keith Jarrett)
f) as Julian mentioned, a valid PO first of all.
