From age 6 until age 12, I've had weekly piano lessons. I cannot say that I enjoyed them, everything was so focussed on passing the Academy exam at the end of the year... I prefered playing outdoors with my friends And me practicing used to drive my dad completely nuts!! 20 years later, I miss playing the piano and I indulge by playing my favorite numbers whenever I visit my parents back home in Canada. My top favorite: "Premier hiver", by Claude Léveillée. It's a simple piece but I absolutely love the melody... If I had the time and (most of all!) the space in my house, the next piece of furniture on my buying list would be a piano! ▲ Collapse | | | Anthony Baldwin United States Local time: 15:14 Portuguese to English + ... I´ve been playing guitar since the age of 13 when I began to learn Spanish flamenco music. The beginning of my education in Portuguese was learning to sing ¨Estou Apaixonado¨ by João Paulo e Daniél and ¨Como Grande é meu Amor por Vocé¨ de Roberto Carlos for my wife at our wedding. Tó escutando agora! Gosto muito, mas, nem posso parar a sacudir a bunda, e tenho que trabalhar. I hope to be in Brazil around o Natal, but don´t know if we´ll make it down Rio way (estaremos em Minas onde fica a familia da minha mulher), but, if we do make it down there, I´d totally dig a live performance. I´m not finding a show schedule. Do you ever come back stateside with the band? We´re only about an hour from Manhattan (we´re in New Haven, CT). tony | | | Angela Dickson (X) United Kingdom Local time: 20:14 French to English + ...
I learnt the piano and viola as a child, and now play the viola several times a week (usually) in orchestras and chamber groups, and now that I live in a proper house with thick walls I have a piano again (have patience, Marie-Claude! it will happen!) and am enjoying messing around on that during work breaks. While we're on the topic of self-promotion (thanks Amy!), here is a review of a concert I was involved in - search for 'viola' and I am referenced, although not by name... you'... I started playing the drums about 7 years ago and played quite a lot in the first years, also in public. I was forced to sacrifice a big chunk of my practising time after my sons were born, but I plan to resume drumming a lot as soon as children and work allow me! | | | Angela Dickson (X) United Kingdom Local time: 20:14 French to English + ...
I posted earlier, but my post, which included a link to a review of a performance I was involved in a few months ago, seems to have been deleted. I'd like to know why.
[Edited at 2007-05-10 15:33] OK, it's back now - it must have been considered suspicious, or something.

I used to play the piano when I was at school and even did up to Grade 4 of the Royal Schools of Music exams. I was a bit lazy about practising every day though, which is essential for any good musician and is probably why I eventually gave up. | | | Margreet Logmans (X) Netherlands Local time: 21:14 English to Dutch + ...
I play piano and guitar and I love to sing. Unfortunately, I never paid much attention to the lessons I had, so I would not dare call myself a musician. But I find it very relaxing just to be able to play some music, even if it isn't fit for any kind of stage. My kids like it when I play or sing, until I start making up silly songs and lyrics. 'Be serious, mum!' They obviously feel that adults are supposed to be serious; well, I disagree.... See more I play piano and guitar and I love to sing. I played the piano for 11 years when I was at school. Wanted to be a professional musician, actually. Then, one day - or was it night? - I realised I wouldnt be among the top 10 pianists of the world, and stopped playing (for some 15 years!). Then the urge to play came back, and now I do it occasionally. My younger daughter is learning the violin, so I usually play the piano part for her. ... and singing. I am even qualified to teach piano although I have never actually done it. I studied cello for 6 years but stopped having lessons when I started college - I had enough with my degree in Classics and studying piano at the Conservatory. I still play the piano for about 2 hours a day, and I'm currently studying a Bach's partita, a Schubert's impromptu, and a Haydn's sonata. | |

I guess I was hoping for some answers like that when I suggested the poll - or I should say: you even exceed my expectations I thougt there might be some fairly good musicians around. I sing - actually I can't remember there was a time in my life when I didn't sing. But since many years I sing solely jazz - I sing in a choir: www.jazzchorwien.at (or in English: www.jazzchorwien.at/inhalt_e.html) and in work shops and every now and then together with friends. And I LOVE brazilian music - Anthony, your forgot to mention Elis Regina, one of my absolute favourites Unfortunately I don't understand any portuguese at all, I only tried to learn portuguese a couple of weeks some months ago... As a kid I always dreamt of playing the piano - but we didn't have one at home. I took some lessons a couple of years ago, but after a while I found it dificult to practice every day, so now I only play very little once in a while, but I still hope for some time in my life with oceans of time for all these sorts of things... | | | Thomas Pfann United Kingdom Local time: 20:14 Member (2006) English to German + ... For now I'm just thinking about learning another instrument, like the flute, the clarinet or something that doesn't take half of my living room in terms of space Amy, wow! Great music! I really enjoyed it!
