target doc formatting is messed up

So I open a package or single document, translate it in Trados 2014, and then click "save target as" and then go and open that in my word processing software, which is not MS Word, it's open source - Open Office Writer. And sometimes, not always, the formatting is really weird. It adds lots of "enters" and spaces between every couple of sentences. Has this happened to anyone else? How can I change the formatting while in trados editing view?

... and I think I'd start by double checking your translation. First make sure you are not working in wysiwyg mode. So open the translated file and then do two things:

1. Press Ctrl+Shift+h (unless you are already displaying all formatting tags)
2. Make sure you are showing all whitespace characters in the Editor

Now press F8 to run a QA check. If you have got any formatting differences the QA check, unless you turned off the setting, will find them and you can... See more

If this doesn't help then perhaps find a segment where you can see a problem in the final target and scrutinise the translation to see if you can spot why.

Lastly, I'd try and determine if there is a difference between how your open source office writer handles text and formatting compared to Word.

If none of this allows you to find the problem I'd be happy to take a look if you can share the translated sdlxliff and an explanation of where I can look to find these discrepancies?
