Wars rage in nearly 40 countries, displacing tens of millions, with casualties mounting at an alarming rate. Over 80 percent of the victims are not soldiers, but civilians—men, women, and children—often the poorest of the poor, with few resources to help them rebuild their lives and communities. What is to become of those who have been maimed physically and psychologically by the global epidemic of violence?
