Dear Students and Parents,
Hello! I am Mrs. Harris and I will be your child’s Literature Block teacher. As a building we are committed to providing the best education possible for your child. The fifth grade teachers met and looked at each student’s fluency, comprehension and TESA scores to assist in placing him/her in the literacy block that meets his/her needs.
We will be using the district’s newly adopted reading series (Storytown, published by Harcourt) at the 5th grade level. During Literature Block we will be focusing on fluency, reading strategies, and other requirements set by the District and Oregon Department of Education. Spelling will be taught in your child’s home room, along with grammar, vocabulary, and writing.
Homework policy: I allow plenty of time in class to complete the reading assignments for each day. If your child is unable to complete the assignment in the given amount of time, this work will become homework. On occasion there will be additional work that will be assigned as homework on an as needed basis. When this does happen it will be noted in your child’s agenda. The unfinished work or homework is to be completed and turned in the next school day. If the assignment is incomplete your child will be staying in at recess or receive a point deduction based on the tardiness of the assignment.
With the level of students that I have in this literature block I really encourage responsible behavior and expect that all work is completed using complete sentences and appropriate answers. I want the students to use their high level of reading skills to enhance the work and projects that they do in this classroom. We will be focusing on higher level of thinking skills and encouraging them to think deeper while reading literature.
I look forward to teaching your child and meeting his or her intellectual needs. I will be sending home progress reports on a regular basis to keep you informed of how well your child is doing.

¡Hola! Yo soy Mrs. Harris y seré la maestra de literatura de su hijo(a). Como equipo estamos comprometidos a proveer la mejor educación posible para su hijo(a). Las maestras de quinto grado nos juntamos y revisamos la fluidez y comprensión de cada estudiantes y las calificaciones de los exámenes hechos por computadora (TESA), para que nos ayuden a situar a su hijo(a) en el grupo de literatura que cubra sus necesidades.
Estaremos usando la serie de lectura adoptadas por el distrito (Story Town, publicado por Hartcourt) al nivel de 5to grado. Durante el bloque de literatura nos estaremos enfocando en la fluidez, estrategias para la lectura, y otros requerimientos del distrito y el departamento de educación de Oregon. Ortografía será enseñada en el salón regular de su hijo(a), junto con gramática, vocabulario y escritura.
Póliza de tarea: Yo doy tiempo suficiente para que los trabajos sean terminados en clase cada día. Si su hijo(a) no termina su trabajo en el tiempo dado, se asignara como tarea. Ocasionalmente se asignaran trabajos adicionales como tarea según sea necesario. Cuando esto suceda se notificara por medio de su agenda. La tarea asignada se debe entregar al día siguiente. Si su hijo no termino su tarea en casa tendrá que utilizar el tiempo de receso para hacerlo o se le quitara un punto basado el que tan tarde se haya entregado.
Con el nivel de estudiantes que tengo en mi grupo de literatura, realmente los animo a que tengan un comportamiento responsable y espero que toda la tarea sea terminada usando oraciones completas y respuestas apropiadas. Yo quiero que los estudiantes utilicen su alto nivel de habilidades en la lectura para realzar el trabajo y proyectos que ellos hagan en el salón de clase. Nos estaremos enfocando en un nivel más elevado de habilidades de pensamiento y los animo a que piensen profundamente cuando leen literatura.

Bio
I have more than 6 years of experience in oral/written translations. I have been bilingual my whole life and have worked for the school district translating every document that goes out, newsletter and as an oral translator. I know what confidentiality means and I rely on quality and accuracy. I went to medical school for 3 years and have knowledge in medical terminology. I am not only good at translating but I also have excellent typing skills which help me on my turn around times.
I do not translate word per word; I transfer the idea and feelings on my translations. I make sure that the person who will read my letter will get the meaning and emotions of the original document.
