Austria's most famous wine region: the Wachau
The first mention of the Wachau was in a Carolingian document in 830 A.D. While the local tradition of wine-growing actually dates back to the time the Romans settled in the Wachau, the first golden age of wine truly blossomed under Carolingian rule. In the Middle Ages the wines of the Wachau were already known far beyond the borders of Austria. There aren't many landscapes in Europe which have as clearly defined borders as the Wachau: the Danube valley between Melk and Krems. The Wachau represents the history, which transpired along these 33 kilometers of river. It is a landscape shaped by wine, as well as a cultural landscape, nestled between the majestic Benedictine monasteries of Melk and Göttweig.

Experience
Years of experience: 32. Registered at ProZ.com: Jan 2008.
I grew up in various European countries, then spent over twenty years living and working in the USA, before returning to my native Austria in the year 2007. Besides being active as a translator, I take great pride in conducting privately guided tours through the lovely Wachau valley, which I am fortunate to call my home.
Literature, history and travel have always played a defining role in my life, here and abroad.
While living the United States, I was library director of a small town library in the Northeast for eight years, but I have also worked in emergency medicine and as a technical consultant for a major communications corporation.
While a student at the NH Technical University in Concord, NH, I helped develop, built and race a solar assisted electrical vehicle called 'Sungo'.
I can truly claim that I am able to draw from a deep well of experience and passion for the written and spoken language.
