My main specialization is the translation of scientific articles (including medical), but I can also do most of the usual technical translations and general texts.
By education and profession, I am a geologist. I have finished my MSc
in Geology (Paleontology) at Charles University in Prague (the Czech Republic)
in 1994. After this, I have moved to Sweden, where I pursued my postgraduate
career towards a PhD degree in Marine Geology at Gothenburg University in 1998.
In September 2000, After two years in the US, where I worked as a postdoctoral researcher at the University of California,
Santa Barbara, I have started a new job as a lecturer at the University of London.
I am fluent in Czech, Swedish (my wife is Swedish, so I had no choice ;-), and English).
For the passion to my native language, I have decided to embark on a side-track
of language translation. I have been doing this successfully (I hope) since spring 1999.
My main strength is in the long experience with English scientific writing.
During my carrer I wrote about 25 articles for international peer-reviewed
journals. In addition, I can benefit from the experience and knowledge of
my wife Paola, who is a native Swedish speaker and a professional linguist
(and who talked me into becoming a translator).
My price is US$ 0.07/ English word, the same for proofreading.
Minimum order is US$ 20.
Among my recent jobs are:
- translation of medical (about milk thistle) articles from Czech and Slovak into English
(for an agency called RITS in San Francisco)
- translation of scientific reports on radar absorbing materials from Swedish
into English (together with my wife for a company called SCITRAN here in Santa Barbara) |
