European High Yield Bond Fund
The fund seeks to preserve shareholder capital and to provide a return exceeding the average return of the European high yield bond market.
Portfolio comment as of 31/01/2019
European High Yield spreads tightened with 55bps from 520bps to 465bps during the month of January. This led to the strongest monthly performance for European High Yield since July 2016.
Despite the tightening in spreads in January, the current spread-to-worst remains at attractive levels.
With historical low default rates, 0.4% in 2018, Europe looks relatively attractive compared to the US market, where the default rate for 2018 was 2.3% and the quality of the high yield market generally is lower. Despite the increased risk in US high yield, the spread difference between the two markets is limited.
The volatile end to 2018 has meant that new issue activity has been limited in 2019 for high yield. We expect activity in the primary market to increase once the markets become less volatile.
In this context, the fund delivered a monthly return equal to 2.53%, bringing YTD performance to 2.53% (BP-EUR).
The fund outperformed its benchmark in January. The majority of the outperformance was due to strong security selection, but industry allocation also contributed positively.
The positive contribution from security selection was a result of strong selection across a number of different industries but was most notable within Banks, Telecom and Capital Goods. Within Telecom the large underweight in Telecom Italia was a very significant contributor to performance as the bonds performed poorly on the back of a profit warning.
The positive contribution from industry allocation was primarily due to a large overweight in Healthcare which was the second-best performing industry in the benchmark.

با پایان پرخروش سال 2018، فعالیت‌های جدید در زمینه‌ی صدور این اوراق قرضه در سال 2019 نیز با محدودیت‌هایی روبرو شد. بنا بر پیش‌بینی ما، با کاهش فراریت بازارها، فعالیت بازار اصلی این اوراق قرضه نیز افزایش خواهد یافت.
در این بافتار، سود ماهیانه‌ی این صندوق بالغ بر 53/2 درصد بوده است و این رویداد باعث شد تا عملکرد سالیانه‌ی فعلی نیز به 53/2 درصد افزایش پیدا کند (BP-EUR).
این صندوق نسبت به عملکرد معیاری خود در ماه ژانویه ترقی بیشتری کرد. بخش اعظمی از این ترقی مدیون انتخاب شایان اوراق بهادار بود، اما تخصیصات صنعتی نیز نقش مثبتی در این زمینه ایفا کردند.
تأثیر مثبت حاصل از انتخاب اوراق بهادار نتیجه‌ی یک گزینش صحیح بین تعدادی از صنایع مختلف بود، اما این تأثیر بیش از همه در بانک‌ها، تلکام و کالاهای سرمایه‌ای مشهود بود. در زمینه‌ی تلکام، کمبود زیاد سرمایه در تلکام ایتالیا نقش بسزایی در عملکرد این صندوق داشت، زیرا عملکرد این اوراق قرضه به دلیل وجود یک هشدار سودی در این تلکام، در سطح ضعیفی قرار داشت.
تأثیر مثبت حاصل از تخصیصات صنعتی نیز عمدتاً به دلیل وجود سرمایه‌گذاری بسیار زیاد در مراقبت‌های درمانی بود؛ یعنی صنعتی که از لحاظ بهترین عملکرد در دوره‌ی معیاری این صندوق، در رتبه‌ی دوم قرار داشت.
