Source text - French Le travail présenté est une étude anatomique et histologique de deux espèces de mollusques gastéropodes Prosobranches dulçaquicoles, l'une Potamopyrgus antipodarum parthénogénétique avec seulement des femelles (figure 1), l'autre Valvata piscinalis hermaphrodite (figure 2), avec une attention particulière à la gonadogenès, afin d’utiliser ces animaux comme modèle d'étude des effets des polluants perturbateurs endocriniens sur la reproduction. Le déroulement du cycle biologique de ces deux mollusques est sous l'étroite dépendance des facteurs environnementaux. Leur croissance est forte au printemps et en été, décroit en automne et devient pratiquement nulle en hiver.
Comme tous les gastéropodes ils présentent un régime alimentaire mixte à tendance détritivore et herbivore alterné suivant la saison. Ils se nourrissent principalement d'algues filamenteuses ou unicellulaire en été, et de détritus lorsqu'ils sont enfouis dans la vase durant la saison froide. Leur dispersion s'effectue généralement par l'intermédiaire de l'homme, des oiseaux, des poissons ou des amphibiens, des insectes ou enfin par dérive (1).
Les mollusques sont des modèles écologiquement très pertinents, car largement présentes dans tout les écosystèmes.
Par ailleurs, ces modèles biologiques se sont révélés sensibles à divers polluants reprotoxiques. P.antipodarum est reconnu comme un organisme pertinent pour l'étude des polluants perturbateurs endocriniens (2). De ce fait, nous avons entrepris l'étude histologique de leur anatomie et de leur gonadogenès afin d'être en mesure de préciser des éléments de leur biologie, indispensables à l'étude de stress reprotoxique, comme un retard dans la gonadogenès ou une chute de la production d'embryons.
Translation - English The present work involves an anatomical and histological study of two freshwater gastropod prosobranch snail species: 1) Potamopyrgus antipodarum, using only parthenogenetic females (Figure 1) and 2) Valvata piscinalis hermaphrodites (Figure 2), paying particular attention to their gonad development. They were chosen as models to study the effects of endocrine disruptors on production.
The biological cycle of these two species depends heavily on environmental factors. The growth rate increases in spring and summer while in autumn it slows down and even halts in winter [8].
Like other gastropods, their diet varies, alternating between detritus and vegetation depending on the season. They principally feed on epiphytic algae in summer and on detritus when living among mudded foliage during cold periods. Their dispersion has been affected generally by humans, birds, fish, and even amphibians, insects, and currents [1].
These snails are relevant ecological indicators due to their wide distribution.
These biological models are sensitive to different reprotoxic substances. P. antipodarum is known as a pertinent organism for studying endocrine-disrupting substances [2]. Taking advantage of this, we took up a histological study focusing on their anatomy and gonadogenesis to examine precise biological changes, such as late gonadogenesis and the decrease in embryo reproduction, during reprotoxicity studies.
