Bio
I am a native Spanish and Catalan speaker from Barcelona (Spain) living in Bristol (UK) since 2007 and with a Certificate of Proficiency in English since 2009.

I have been working in the language industry since 2008 and I currently work part-time as an Associate Lecturer in Spanish at the University of Exeter and part-time as a freelance translator from English to Spanish or Catalan. I previously worked at the University of Bristol (2009-2012), the University of the West of England (2008-2011), several language schools and several international corporations.

My previous professional background is in History and Archaeology and, more precisely, in geophysics applied to Archaeology. I successfully gained an MPhil in this subject in 2007 (Distinction) and worked in the field for 5 years. For this reason, I am highly familiarised with those fields and have translated archaeological scientific papers and websites for research groups and companies. As this subject is related to geological engineering, I am also familiarised with the vocabulary in this sector and have translated scientific papers for SPICC, a geological engineering consultant. I am passionate about science and, in order to learn more about technical translation, I am starting a 3 month course on Technical Translation with International House Barcelona in July 2014.

In addition to these fields, I have always been fascinated by biomedics, the functioning of the human body and health related innovations. I am constantly reading articles on these subjects and querying matters with my mum, who is a nurse, and to some close friends, who are doctors. This interest motivated me to specialise in the field by completing a 3 month course on Medical Translation EN>ES and a seminar on the translation of medical 'Informed consent' at Trágora Formación (2013-2014). Thanks to these courses I learned to translate informed consent forms, patient information leaflets, informative healthcare leaflets, scientific articles and medical manuals. Also through professional experience, I learned to translate hospital discharge forms. Finally, before I completed this course, I chose 'The design of Spanish learning materials for medical students' as the topic for my MA dissertation (2011), which I passed with Distinction.

My personal background includes extensive traveling around five continents and living experience in English speaking countries like the UK (10 years to date) and Australia (3 months). This has given me an excellent opportunity not only to improve my competence in the English language but also to learn a great deal about intercultural differences and communication.

Translating is not only my job but also my passion. I always look forward to taking on a new and exciting translation project, like yours. So, if you think I can help you with it, please contact me and let's talk about it!

I can communicate your message to your Spanish/Catalan audience exactly as you would, but just in their language.
