In my life I have studied Spanish, German, Greek, Latin, Mandarin Chinese, and Japanese, so I am very familiar with the challenges of translation and interpretation. I have also worked extensively as an editor and proofreader, so I can ensure you that my English translations will be not only faithful to the original but also written in fluid and grammatically correct English.
I lived in Japan for seven years, so I am familiar not only with the written and spoken language, but also the culture from which it comes, a familiarity which is very important in producing accurate, nuanced translations.
During my time in Japan I translated documents from several fields, but I particularly assisted academics in translating their research publications into English. I have translated research abstracts on robotics, computer 3D modeling, botany, nursing, and chemical manufacture, as well as press releases, interview transcripts, and news stories. After returning to the US I worked as a freelancer translating commercial interviews for websites and miscellaneous articles for Japanese clients.
Over the past two years I have been enrolled in the Master's Degree program at the school of International Relations and Pacific Studies (IR/PS) at the University of California-San Diego, studying international politics and business management with a focus on Japan. As such I can offer expertise in economics, finance, and international trade policy in addition to translation skills.
