German to English: Extract from wine marketing brochure General field: Marketing Detailed field: Wine / Oenology / Viticulture
Translation - English Along the Mosel, Saar and Ruwer, wine and countryside are inextricably linked. For nearly 2,000 years, the area has been characterised by steep slope viticulture along the river valley. One can experience the rich wine culture, which has evolved throughout history to the present day. Geologically, the foundation for viticulture was laid in the Devonian Era, about 400 million years ago.
This brochure aims to give an overview of the most important rock and soil types of this wine-growing area using soil profiles of representative vineyard sites. It explains the creation of the landscape, the climate and, in particular, the soil geology of the vineyard to demonstrate the interrelation of the factors that determine the wines’ characteristics. We hope that this booklet, containing interesting and valuable information for vintners, the wine trade and wine lovers alike, will succeed in explaining the Mosel, Saar and Ruwer terroir - the unique culmination of landscape, soil, climate, vine and vintner skill - to further enhance the enjoyment of our wines and their exceptional character.

Translation - English The ‘oratorium St. Banti’ in the Trier High Cathedral dates back to the 7th century. This wealthy foundation, the ‘Bantuspräbende’ was managed by a brotherhood. In 1592 Johannes von Schöneberg turned the Bantus foundation into the ‘St. Banti Seminar’. Its purpose was to educate useful workers for the Lord’s vineyards for the glory of God and the maintenance of the Catholic Religion.
In 1773 Clemens Wenzeslaus founded the Episcopal Seminary. A new more important section of its history began in 1950 when Pope Pius XII reinstated the Theology faculty.
The vineyard property of the Episcopal Seminary was a donation of Prince Elector Clemens Wenzeslaus in 1773, previously belonging to the Jesuit foundation. There followed a dispossession in 1794, however thanks to Bishop Mannay all property and capital was returned to the Episcopal Seminary in 1809 by an imperial decree.
