Source text - English ONE dollar and eighty-seven cents. That was all. And sixty cents of it was in pennies. Pennies saved one and two at a time by bulldozing the grocer and the vegetable man and the butcher until one’s cheeks burned with the silent imputation of parsimony that such close dealing implied. Three times Della counted it. One dollar and eighty-seven cents. And the next day would be Christmas.
There was clearly nothing to do but flop down on the shabby little couch and howl. So Della did it. Which instigates the moral reflection that life is made up of sobs, sniffles, and smiles, with sniffles predominating.
While the mistress of the home is gradually subsiding from the first stage to the second, take a look at the home. A furnished flat at $8 per week. It did not exactly beggar description, but it certainly had that word on the lookout for the mendicancy squad.

It had been only a week and a half since all the pieces
fell into place and everyone had been blessed with
their own happy ending.
Charlotte just wished she could have been there to
see it, up close and personal.
But the role of a fairy godmother/secret matchmaker,
she supposed, didn’t allow her that privilege.
She would have to content herself with secondhand
knowledge and basking in the glow of the young lovers
she’d played a part in getting together.
Unable to control her glee, she stopped right in the
middle of the main aisle of The Yarn Barn on her way
to join her knitting group at the rear of the store, and
did a little jig.
The magic spinning wheel that had been passed
down from generation to generation in her family was
three for three. There was no question now, no way
that anyone could doubt it had very special true- love
powers.
After all, it had brought true love to six individuals
in only a little over a year.
Deep, abiding love, Charlotte was sure. All three
of the young couples she’d slyly gifted with skeins of

enchanted yarn had gone through too much not to appreciate
their mates and what they had together.
And she had orchestrated their relationships from
behind the scenes, without any of them ever being the
wiser.
She let out a happy, private chuckle as she approached
the circle of chairs where the other Knit Wits
were waiting.
“Charlotte!” they greeted her, almost in unison,
sending a satisfi ed warmth spreading through her body.
She loved this group, and every single woman in it.
Although, yes, if someone held a match to her highly
sprayed and shellacked hive of hair, she supposed she
would have to admit that she had a few favorites—
namely her niece, Jenna, and her two friends, Ronnie
and Grace.
Was it any wonder, then, that she’d chosen those
three girls for her magic yarn and spinning wheel experiment?.....

Newport, Rhode Island, August 1893
T HE VISITING HOUR WAS ALMOST OVER, SO
the hummingbird man encountered only the occasional
carriage as he pushed his cart along the narrow strip of road
between the mansions of Newport and the Atlantic Ocean. The
ladies of Newport had left their cards early that afternoon, some
to prepare for the last and most important ball of the season,
others so they could at least appear to do so. The usual clatter and
bustle of Bellevue Avenue had faded away as the Four Hundred
rested in anticipation of the evening ahead, leaving behind only
the steady beat of the waves breaking on the rocks below. The
light was beginning to go, but the heat of the day still shimmered
from the white limestone façades of the great houses that clustered
along the cliffs like a collection of wedding cakes, each one
vying with its neighbour to be the most gorgeous confection. But
the hummingbird man, who wore a dusty tailcoat and a battered
grey bowler in some shabby approximation of evening dress, did
not stop to admire the verandah at the Breakers, or the turrets of
Beaulieu, or the Rhinelander fountains that could be glimpsed

through the yew hedges and gilded gates. He continued along the
road, whistling and clicking to his charges in their black shrouded
cages, so that they should hear a familiar noise on their last journey.
His destination was the French chateau just before the point; the
largest and most elaborate creation on a street of superlatives, Sans
Souci, the summer cottage of the Cash family. The Union flag
was flying from one tower, the Cash family emblem from the
other.
He stopped at the gatehouse and the porter pointed him to the
stable entrance half a mile away. As he walked to the other side
of the grounds, orange lights were beginning to puncture the pale
marble twilight as footmen walked through the house and the
grounds lighting Chinese lanterns in amber silk shades. Just as he
turned past the terrace, he was dazzled by a low shaft of light
from the dying sun refracted by the long windows of the ballroom.
In the Hall of Mirrors, which visitors who had been to Versailles
pronounced even more spectacular than the original, Mrs Cash,
who had sent out eight hundred invitations for the ball that night,
was looking at herself reflected into infinity. She tapped her foot,
waiting impatiently for the sun to disappear so that she could see
the full effect of her costume. Mr Rhinehart stood by, sweat dripping
from his brow, perhaps more sweat than the heat warranted.

Buna rağmen, tozlu redingotu ve eski, gri melon şapkasıyla gece elbiselerinin pırtı bir benzerini giyinmiş olan sinekkuşu satıcısı ne Breakers’daki verandayı, ne Beaulieu’nun kuleciklerini, ne de porsukağacı çalılıklarının ve yaldızlı giriş kapılarının arasından görünen Rhinelander fıskiyelerini hayranlıkla seyretmek için durdu.
Siyah örtüyle sarılmış olan yüklerine, son yolculuklarında tanıdık sesler duysunlar diye ıslık çalıp kafeslerin parmaklıklarını tıkırdatarak yoluna devam etti.
Gideceği yer yüksek sosyeteye ait bir sokaktaki en büyük ve en seçkin yapı olan Fransız şatosuydu: Cash ailesinin yazlık evi olan Sans Souci. Şatonun bir kulesinde Birleşim bayrağı*, diğerinde Cash ailesinin arması asılıydı.
Girişin önünde durdu. Kapıcı ise ona, sekiz yüz metre uzaklıktaki ahır kapısını işaret etti.
Adam şimdi de arazinin öteki tarafına doğru giderken, soluk mermersi günbitimi, üniformalı uşakların amber sarısı ipekten kapakları olan fenerleri yakarak bahçeden eve doğru ilerleyişleriyle birlikte, portakal rengi ışıklarla deliniyordu.
Sekiyi döner dönmez, batmakta olan güneşin, balo salonunun uzun pencerelerinden yansımış alçaktan vuran ama güçlü ışınlarıyla gözleri kamaştı.
Akşamki balo için sekiz yüz davetiye dağıtmış olan Bayan Cash, Versailles’ i de görmüş misafirlerinin, orjinalinden daha gözalıcı olduğunu söyledikleri Aynalar Salonu’nda durmuş, sırlı camlara sonsuz kere yansımış olan suretine bakmaktaydı.
Kıyafetinin tüm etkisini görebilsin diye güneşin kaybolmasını beklerken ayağını sabırsızlıkla yere vuruyordu.
Bay Reinhart yanındaydı; alnından terler damlıyordu, sıcak havanın yapabileceğinden de fazla terlemişti belki de.
‘Yani, şu plastik düğmeye basacağım ve her tarafı tamamen ışıklanacak öyle mi?’

Hello, I am happy that you look over on my translator-editor page.
I am an English to Turkish written translator since 2009. I have graduated İ.Aydın University in Istanbul.
As having great delight on literature writing in my mother tongue(turkish), I mostly prefer working on literary texts, when I have a chance to choose the project that I am going to work on.
Currently, in 2011, I had this chance and translated a novel to Turkish. It was a bestseller romantic comedy book of an American writer, if you're having any curiousity :).
Also, of course working on different areas are necessary for earning the income to live. Among these are the translation of short-length documents, long worksheets and reports, web pages, and so on.
I give a great importance on the accurate, best translation. For success, I first read the original text, look the foreign and ambiguous words up in several dictionaries, do the rough translation; on the second step, I refine my translation, change and shorten it if necessary, for being more local and apprehensible. At last, I do the excellence translation to the full text.
So, dear publishers, writers and copyrighters; please view my work on English translation before signing your contract.
