I've just downloaded the 30-day trial of Déja Vu X, and completely new to the software. I've been through the 20-minute tutorial.

I'm trying to open a .dvpng. I get the wizard and click on Create for a new project. I get the Satellite option default, but I've tried both the Satellite and the Project options and either way the following happens: I click on Save, Next, (it says You have successfully completed the Pack&Go Wizard). I get the Satellite option default, but I've tried both the Satellite and the Project options and either way the following happens: I click on Save, Next, (it says You have successfully completed the Pack&Go Wizard). The Pack&Go Package and the Project locations mention the right files, the Translation Memory and Terminology Database are empty. I click Finish and the popup disappears, I return to the Déja Vu main window and nothing happens. I don't get the File Navigator.
When I go to the folder where the project's supposed to be saved, I can only see the original .dvpng file.

I have read through Help and tried searching the Knowledge Base, but to no avail. I get the feeling this must be something very basic - would it have to do anything with its being a trial version? From what I read it should be working.

The info in the About window says "Déja Vu X Editor". Is that correct?

I'm running Windows XP Pro.

Thank you,
Zsanett

Did you get a key number from Atril yet? Jan 12, 2006

The software won't work until you get a key number. When downloading, you should have been given the opportunity to request a 30-day trial key, to activate the software. If that hasn't come, I'd recommend contacting Atril and asking for that key. Once you get it, you should be able to use *all* the features in DVX, just like anyone who has the full version.

And, while I at it: once you get activated and start on the project, make sure to create lots and lots and lots of "Translation Memory" segments while working with the project (SHIFT+F11). Everything you put into memory will be more "savings in the bank" not only in terms of the current project, but all future work and, of course, future profitabilty.

Yes, works with key Jan 12, 2006

Yolanda,

thank you for your quick reply. After the installation I indeed got a window where I could request an evaluation key. I've sent the email the software created...and I just received it while I was typing this sentence. I now managed to create a satellite file and it seems to be working!
It's strange because I got a readme file from the client which doesn't say that you can't start working before you have the code. In fact it just says download the trial version and go

But anyway, it's working now, so that's what matters

Thanks a lot!

DVX without key = DVX Editor Jan 13, 2006

I'm not very knowledgeable about working with satellite files, but I know that DVX is intended to work (in restricted, aka Editor mode) without a key.

If I'm not mistaken, this mode is explicitly intended for editing Satellite files, so I suspect that there must have been a glitch in your workflow.

What you are working with now, Zsanett, is a trial version of either DVX Standard or DVX Pro (I think the latter) which will expire after 30 (?) days (and probably return to Editor mode).

You can also joint the Dejavu list on Yahoo, there are many helpful and knowledgeable DV users there: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/dejavu-l/

Request a temporary activation code Jun 3, 2010

Eliska,

Déjà Vu X Editor is a very limited edition. You can open satellite projects and translate them without using any TM nor teminology. You won't be able to export the file you translated.
If you want to try Déjà Vu X, please request a temporary activation code at [email protected] sending the Déjà Vu X installation serial number, and you will be able to test Déjà Vu X Professional during one month.
