The rush-job calendar Nov 29, 2008

This poll question reminded me of the rush-job calendar, familiar to ITI members since 1988 and now circulated widely on the internet, e.g.

Each day exists there for a reason. This is my common schedule:

Monday: wake up to a new, clear week
Tuesday and Wednesday: when I get most jobs
Thursday: work, work, work
Friday: when I finish all pending jobs
Saturday and Sunday: rest and relax!

This doesn't apply when I have a long project, but it does most of the times.

Holidays and Weekends, OF COURSE! Nov 29, 2008

I often end up working on Sundays and am pretty used to it by now, so is my family, but if I could have one guaranteed day off per week, it would be Sunday.

It's a nice day to relax and drink a few beers and enjoy life with the family, as it goes

Except for the beer --I am definitely "non-alcoholic"!, I couldn't agree more!

Sundays are the days I do not have any translations to do Nov 29, 2008

Sundays are the days I do not have any translations to do. There are Sundays on which I have to do translations. Since I began freelance translating, I gave up conventional wisdoms on the seven day week.

Hillarious! LOL & ROL

For me, it's usually Friday - I often wish it was already Saturday when clients start pouring in their orders (usually for the end of the day or Monday SOB at the latest) which means I end up with a desk covered with papers trying to organize my work over the next few hours AND that I'll be working over the weekend... but that's already a normal thing...

I would never want any day wiped off my calendar. Life is too short to wipe out anything...

In a less philosophical sense: either I have much translation work to do, which is fine because I love my job, or I am between jobs, then I use the time to catch up with my many other tasks (being a housewife, mother etc.). I must admit I don't really get the deeper meaning of the question. Wipe it because you don't have work on a certain day and are bored? Wipe it because customers flood you

Wipe it because customers flood you on that day and you can't make heads or tails of it?

In my case, it's rather a period of the year (last two weeks in December) when customers tend to get what I call "end of the year panic": they want everything finished on the 31 December, as if the world would stop spinning on midnight...

Wednesdays Dec 1, 2008

Are there no other French working mothers out there ? Wednesday is the day we all look forward too (no school for kids on Wednesdays), when we have to pretend to our clients that we're working out of a smooth-running, professional office, when in fact, depending on the age of the children, we are:
a) trying to keep their fingers out of wall sockets
b) typing with one hand, doing a jigsaw with the other
c) saying "Well can't you watch it one more time?" - referring to Shrek (or

d) Ferrying them to and from sports activities, dashing back to the computer, hoping you haven't missed a job.
e) Screaming "Don't answer that!" every time the phone rings.

Wednesdays are a nightmare !

I also voted "None".
When I have a lot of work on, I need Monday to Saturday to get it done.
Sunday is my day off. I certainly wouldn't want to wipe it off the calendar!

I don't really understand the need for "OFF" time.
I love my job and get bored quickly with most non-working activities. I also organize my days so that I can do most things I like (walk the dogs, cooking, garden, housework, bit of TV) on most days.
On Sundays I run a pub quiz with a friend, which I get paid for in money and free beer, so even that could be seen as working ...

I realy adore having a well organized and active day all week round!

I answered Wednesday for exactly the same reasons!!!
Usually means early-morning and evening work, i.e. when the kids are safely tucked up!!
