Thank you for your comments, as I said, this is not my speciality but someone needed urgent help and asked me, never again!! ha ha ha. I take not of "chapa" not being "sheet," could it have been the door plate perhaps? as I think it is the whole metal part of the door.

In that case, you must be right, it has to be a key of some kind.
By the way, "chapa" doesn't mean "sheet", it refers the entire door lock/latch mechanism, i.e. the hardware comprising the latch, the lock and the handle, if there is one. In English, as laymen, we'd probably call the whole thing the "lock", but in Spanish you have the "cerradura", which is the actual "locking" mechanism, perhaps a "deadbolt", and the "chapa", which I imagine comes from the "plaques" that are affixed to either side of the door and usually hold the door knob/handle in place. There are so many different kinds, it's hard to imagine what this entails, but I think something like "deadbolts that are part of lock hardware/mechanism" might work.

If it mentions a "llave universal" after "cerraduras embutidas en la chapa" shouldn't it be a "key" and not a spanner? Did you see the links posted by Helena below too?

You could well be right! I jumped to conclusions because only two days ago a person was telling me about a lorry driver who had driven away from the depot without the key to the trailer. In the end, everything was alright because the people at the other end of the route had another key.

Could you post the original Spanish sentence please? To me, a "llave universal" sounds like an adjustable wrench, and there's something that about "mortise locks embedded in the sheet" that doesn't sound right. This is about transport, you say?
