the moral high ground Explanation: I know this would normally be "la autoridad moral", but it seems to fit the context well. Might need some corroboration though. "To lose the moral high ground" is a common collocation of course. |

moral discernment Explanation: "Estimativa" means "Facultad del alma racional para juzgar el aprecio que merecen las cosas" (and also "theory of values" in philosophy, but I don't think that's involved here) (DRAE). So it is an ability to make moral judgments. It's close to "moral standards", but "loss of moral standards" could be understood to mean "being less moral", and it's not precisely that. I think "moral sense" would do, but I think the most precise equivalent is "moral discernment". |
