Street naming
The word "Changkat" is used in Malaysia in some street naming. I believe that it means a "small hill" or something similar. Does anyone have the correct (more precise) translation into English?

You don't normally need to translate street or place names, but if for some reason you do, you could use "rise". Hence, Changkat Changi (place name in Singapore) could be translated as Changi Rise

Apparently I was wrong about it being a small hill, since a "rise" would normally (as I understand it) be an incline (rising ground) rather than a mound or knoll etc. However, it is quite commonly used in street names in England, and so your translation is very appropriate - thank you. |
