Italian term
femmine alzate
Italian to English
Other
Zoology
monitoring protocols - bird/animal presence/absence
Context:
By now, I understand that covate = clutches, juv = young (nestlings), however another term that is bugging me is "alzata" - does this refer to being "raised" (allevato) or recovered by the pointer dogs (cani da ferma)?
Any suggestions welcome!
Thanks in advance!

I think you're conflating the different meanings of "raise" in English - this confusion doesn't exist in Italian, where "alzare" means raise in the sense of lift, and "allevare" means raise as in breed. Here, they're counting the number of birds the census takers and their dogs flush out of the undergrowth.
Here's an English-Italian reference:
Flush
1 V+D (uccelli) snidare, fare **alzare in volo**
◊ they flushed the pheasants from the undergrowth snidarono i fagiani dal sottobosco
