Axel Dittmer Aug 4, 2016:
Im “Leitfaden-paralympisches-Klassifizierungssystem-2016“ steht auch inzwischen Wettkampfklassen. Ich bin beruhigt!

@aykon If you click on the DE version of Ramey's Wikipedia link, you will find the term Startklasse

Tabu ist auch der Begriff "Schadensklasse". Der Ausdruck, der aus der KfZ-Versicherung geläufig ist, wurde ersetzt durch "Startklassen".

@Axel. yes, Schadensklasse is truly appaling and I wonder how the Germans with their political correctness can get away with it. Schadensklasse is used in car insurances!
Ramey Rieger (X) Aug 3, 2016:
An alternative would be handicap, of course.
Axel Dittmer Aug 3, 2016:
Hi,
just wondering about “disability".
The German word “Schadensklasse“ is terrible.
Ramey Rieger (X) Aug 3, 2016:
@Axel Greetings! You are certainly right that we are dealing with sports classes, but here, the classification is allocated according to the disability, which I don't think can be omitted.
Axel Dittmer Aug 3, 2016:
I think Steffen is right, “sport classes“
“Handcycling
Sport classes: H1- H5
There are 5 different sport classes for handcycling and lower numbers indicate a more severe activity limitation.“

Axel Dittmer Aug 3, 2016:
might be called “impairment classification“.
“IFs decide which eligible impairment types their sport will cater to. Some Paralympic sports are only designed for athletes with one eligible impairment type. Goalball, for example, is only open to athletes with visual impairment. Other sports, such as athletics and swimming, are open to athletes with any of the 10 eligible impairments.
