Discussion

Ian M-H (X) Apr 13, 2006:
No cause for laughter - sentences like that are sent to try us.
Ford Prefect (asker) Apr 13, 2006:
Thanks Ian. The only change needed is to the term, to "unverdünnt" (I know, I know - you can have a good old laugh now)
Ian M-H (X) Apr 13, 2006:
James: I've switched it back to "pro" at your request. But I still think it's straightforward: The liquid "wird...unverdünnt...untersucht", i.e. it is analysed without being diluted first.
Ford Prefect (asker) Apr 13, 2006:
Harry, that sounds highly plausible, would you like to submit it as an answer?
Ford Prefect (asker) Apr 13, 2006:
Well I asked the question on the assumption that the obvious literal translation doesn't work here, so unless I am wrong a de-edit would be appreciated Ian :-)

So, if it's undiluted, would you suggest "concentrated"? How does photon correlation spectroscopy "undilute" the sample? It doesn't make sense. Are either of you familiar with the technology? The sentence continues ...entsprechend Internationaler Norm ISO13321 durch eine 6-fache Messung auf Anwesenheit und Größenverteilung von partikel untersucht.
Harry Borsje Apr 13, 2006:
or in other words: The liquid was collected and "as is" (...analysed?...) using photon correlation spectroscopy
Richard Benham Apr 13, 2006:
You've got me intrigued now: what's the rest of the sentence?
Ian M-H (X) Apr 13, 2006:
... although I must admit to rather liking the idea of un-diluting.
Richard Benham Apr 13, 2006:
Jojo, der Ian hat recht!
Ian M-H (X) Apr 13, 2006:
Your term should be "unverdünnt": undiluted

although undiluted (adjective) and even concentrated (although that may lead to some ambiguity) are equally applicable
