Horst Huber (X) Jan 11, 2015:
Too late for an answer, but I might have tried something like "thereby critically expanded upon of Aristotle`s thinking, especially in physics, one of his central fields of study." I'll always defer to the native speakers!
Lirka (asker) Jan 9, 2015:
I used Helen's idea. However, since she did not post it as an answer, I gave points to Andrew ( where she commented)

Proponent At first thought, this would be my suggestion, but looking at Avicenna's Wikipedia page, it might be closer to "devotee."

Lirka (asker) Jan 5, 2015:
Ja, Horst, that's exactly what I was looking for Please post it as an answer :)
Horst Huber (X) Jan 5, 2015:
It may be necessary to unpack the metonymy (which is very common in German writing) that takes the thinker for the thought and say that Avicenna expanded upon the scientific concepts of the Aristotelian tradition.
Ramey Rieger (X) Jan 4, 2015:
Hi Lirka! It would be useful to know with WHAT he has proven to be the critical ameliorater, enhancer, improver, amender, augmenter, magnifier, or embellisher of Artistotle.

(Dictionary translation of 'erweitern'. But you already knew that, didn't you, lirka)
Peer comment(s):

agree Helen Shiner : Yes, and no doubt as a result ended up *promulgating* his work./You could call it a critical commentary on his work.

I would say he is his successor, the context of aviable texts defines him as someone who used the teachings of aristoteles to form his own, so this term would be appropriate, even if he is critical he still has the teachings as his basis
