French term

consomm’acteurs

French to English Other Names (personal, company)
".... offres destinées à des consomm’acteurs"

A web search shows that this term is often used in France but I am a total loss for a sutable translation. Any ideas?

Lewina Giles (X) (asker) Jan 23, 2008:
With regard to the context, the idea is "consumers who take charge" so "responsible consumers" is looking very good.

Here are some helpful links:

Here, "acteur" has the sense of "playing your part" in a larger cause, a notch down from full-blown activism.
Victoria Porter-Burns Jan 23, 2008:
In that case, then, is it not likening the 'consommateur' to an 'acteur', rather than referring to 'responsible customers', as suggested? The way I read it, it's emphasising the consumer's role as 'acteur'. Does this help at all?
Lewina Giles (X) (asker) Jan 23, 2008:
To Victoria Yes, most definately a marketing context.
Victoria Porter-Burns Jan 23, 2008:
Hi Lewina. Is there any marketing context involved here?

responsible consumers

Often also "socially responsible consumers," but that specifies a scope that may not match the one in your context.

You can also choose to specify "ecologically responsible consumers" if that fits.

"Consumers with a conscience" and "eco-conscious consumers" (if applicable--it may be "ethically conscious," for example) are more options.

TY :)
neutral writeaway : your ref isn't very conclusive. I looked to check and found the following, which means we don't have enough context to know for sure, but it's possible: http://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Consommacteur

It's an example of my proposed translation in context. Just noticed your link after posting it myself up above!
