Denise Pavao Aug 4, 2016:
Hi Liz,
I thought valider could mean "verify" in the right context. Maybe I'm wrong there. In the labs I've worked in we've always used "verify" for results, and validate for procedures, assays, test methods, etc. It's possible that other institutions use "validate" and "verify" interchangeably - it just hasn't been my experience.

verify and validate are two separate concepts
liz askew (asker) Aug 4, 2016:
Hi Denise,
But this means "validated" not verified.

@ Liz
To be clear, I would say verified rather than validated.

@Liz

I also agree with your initial interpretation. Every time a lab test is done, before it is "finalized," the result must be looked at by a set of eyes (in the computer or on a paper print-out) and "verified." Essentially the results are reviewed to see if anything further needs to be done based on the laboratory's procedures and protocols. (Some tests that are done on instruments are "auto-verified if they are not critical results.) So while an assay or test method or instrument is validated, a test result or lab report is verified by a laboratory technician or technologist (or auto-verified) before being released to the physician.
