French term

organisation de concours

French to English Other Internet, e-Commerce Discussion about the north south digital divide
The full phrase is:

Appel à candidature, formation « xxxx », publication de contenus, organisation de concours

I think this means organizing competitions, but in the context of of a project about collaboration I was wondering if it could mean organizing help or organizing collaboration.

The phrase is part of a list of tasks to be accomplished.

Later on in the same document there is one mention of incentives to get members more active and rewarding the most active. That is the only thing that comes close to a competition.

Thanks Amy, there is a chance that you right -- but I asked the agency to ask the client. So that's where it stands.

Hi! This is my shot in the dark. Whenever I've seen "organisation de concours" in the past, it has always been in the context of applying for a job or a bursary. Could it mean that the person is responsible for organizing the application process or receiving the applications? Would that work in your context?
Joshua Pepper Sep 15, 2011:
OK, seems like a good idea.
Good luck.
Stephanie Ezrol (asker) Sep 15, 2011:
Thanks for your help -- no diplomas. I have to turn this in soon, so I may just add a note about the ambiguity.
Joshua Pepper Sep 15, 2011:
I agree with you that "concours" can mean collaboration, see the fourth definition from this dictionary:
http://www.larousse.com/en/dictionnaires/francais/concours

But if they were talking about organizing collaboration, I'm pretty certain they wouldn't have said it like this... it just doesn't fit.

Sticking with my idea about exams, are they awarding any sort of diploma at all? I see they are offering "formations".
Stephanie Ezrol (asker) Sep 15, 2011:
No. They talk about bringing in ordinary people and academic experts but nothing about exams. This more of an NGO sort of thing.
Joshua Pepper Sep 15, 2011:
Note that "concours" in France can also mean what we would call "exams" - is there some sort of academic context?
