French term

taux de détention de crédits

French to English Bus/Financial Finance (general) Consumer credit
Hi all,

Working on a report for a provider of consumer credit, I have come across this term. They are defending the use of credit by households, in that it enables them to buy the things they need.

Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

The percentage of households that use credit is...

Seemingly "households" in your context, otherwise "people" or "consumers".

Using credit means you borrow money to buy something.
You borrow money (with your credit card or loan).
You buy the thing you want.
You pay back that loan later – with interest.

agree philgoddard : You can't say "the percentage is 47.8%", but you could say "proportion ", or just "47.8% of households hold some form of credit".

Fair comment, it is a bit awkward (brain-freeze), thanks for the correction.
agree AllegroTrans : Agree, but with Phil// it's language "blur", also happened to me when I was an expat, even among En-speakers we often used franglais without realising it

Thanks! Or not thanks? My head goes into a loop when I see "taux". In fairness, percentage v. proportion is stylistic, even though Phil is obviously right. / Some kind of circuitry problem! A re-read would fix it. These irritating little words!
agree SafeTex : "Households" was not part of the question but it has been cleverly added based on what follows

Very kind of you to say so, flattery will get you far, thanks!

credit take-up rate

... au global > overall

....Le taux de détention de crédits à la consommation > consumer credit take-up rate

Middling confidence level as take-up is a fuzzy match with détention, besides which I used to fall asleep during UK Consumer Act 1974 lectures.
