French term

chef de bordée

French to English Tech/Engineering Construction / Civil Engineering
This is in a document describing handling equipment and operations on a shipyard:

Appareilleurs :
1 équipe = 4 personnes (1 chef de manœuvre, 1 chef de bordée, 1 signaleur, 1 opérateur)

Another suggestion As you've now told us that this is a post on the shipyard's staff, I suggest " Shift Supervisor".

Hello philgoddard, yes they are employed by the shipyard, it is during the construction phase so they are all employees of the builder company.
philgoddard Apr 20, 2018:
Jessjess Are these people employed by the dockyard? If so, I think "shift leader" would be more appropriate than BD's "officer of the watch".

shift leader

See the discussion entries. The most common meaning is officer of the watch, but this is a dockyard employee.

neutral B D Finch : What about "de bordée"? As "chef" has various possible translations, it's only by taking the term as a whole that you can possibly know how to translate it.

officer of the watch

As "bordée" seems to be used interchangeably with "quart" for a watch. http://www.centpourcentanglais.com/html/009-glossary-c.htm
