Olisiko kenellakaan sanalle porskuttaa tassa yhteydessa parempaa, osuvampaa kaannosta kuin 'thriving'?

the firm rides out the recession

porskuttaa, ride out, survive, while others fall in combat. I wouldn't go so far as to say 'thrive'.

Thank you!
neutral Timo Lehtilä : I tried to find an English equivalent for 'porskuttaa', without any remarkable success, but actually I know that 'porskuttaa' in this context means even more than just 'thrive', sth like 'thrive phenomenally/amazingly...'

agree Spencer Allman : Ride out the recession sounds good to me. But I don't know what the Finnish really means and there seem to be conflicting opinions about this?

porskuttaa = polskuttaa as in p. vettä. Figuratively, thrive, succeed

keeping it's head above the parapet

Could add of course, in the current recession, or say, treading water or doing as well as they possibly can under the current circumstances...

Treading water means that the company is surviving but more or less staying still. If the meaning for porskuttaa in this context means that they are doing remarkably well then thriving phenomenally or as a Virginia Creeper or having outstanding success could all be used depending on the context.

the firm happily carries on amid the recession

This is the best I could come up with. In my opinion, without any further context, porskuttaa clearly implies that the firm is doing really well in spite of the recession.
