"The case category file maintains information on each case category code. The case category codes are developed by you and a copy of the list should be placed in Appendix A of this guide. They are used to describe a general classification of cases and are used along with the case (docket) number to track case statistics. Some examples are as follows:
MH = Mental Health
M-AP = Criminal Appeals
D = Domestic Relations
F = Felonies
JD = Juvenile Delinquent
M = Misdemeanors
AA = Administrative Appeals
A = Adoption
C = Civil Action
C-AP = Civil Appeals
G = Guardianship
P = Misc Proceedings
P-CR = Misc Proceedings - Criminal"

: expediente, with possibly leaving "p-cr" as is.

Thanks, Sandro: expediente it is. I agree that this abbreviation/code probably doesn't need to be translated, but the asker was keen to know what it might mean.

: Once you put the term "causa" it means that the case is on for trial. During the investigation, the term used in the inquisitorial or mixed systems is sumario or expediente. For the adversarial systems I would use the latter.
