Ambulation: lesion level predicts ambulatory ability. Cognitive, perceptual and coordination impairments, spasticity and bone deformities may also limit activity. Ankle dorsiflexion (L5) strength predicts community ambulation: outdoors walking and independent transfers. Use ankle orthoses and foot care only. Knee extension (L3-L4) strength predicts household ambulation: standing for transfers, walking short distances with hip-knee-ankle-foot orthoses, ****rigid gait orthoses**** and wheelchair for longer distances.
