This paper is reserved for copies, letterhead and business forms. Nearly two million tons of bond paper stock are used every year in the U.S. alone. It is designed to work especially well on typewriters, readily accepts ink from a pen, and allows for easy erasing. Bond paper is typically made from a hardwood/softwood mix for good printability and strength. This paper is characterized by good printing, folding and perforating properties, with high tensile strength and tear resistance. It is important for bond papers to run well on high-speed printing equipment and have high visual brightness. The high level of opacity in most bond papers is achieved with additives such as clay and calendering. The most commonly used size is 8½" x 11", cut four out of the basic size bond sheet of 17" x 22" and the most common weights are 12#, 15#, 18#, 20#.
